Introduction to Schema.org Markup

What is Schema.org?

Schema.org is a set of HTML tags webmasters can use to mark-up their pages in a way recognised by search engine providers such as Google, Bing and Yahoo! On-page mark-up helps search engines understand the information on web pages and provide better search results.

Schema.org has several different categories of microdata types, including:

  • Event
  • Organization
  • Person
  • Place, LocalBusiness
  • Review

Benefits of Schema.org Mark-up

Some of the benefits of using Schema mark-up include:

  • Search engine can easily understand the information on your site
  • Schema mark-up can be used to generate rich snippets in Google search results; these snippets can include reviews, people, events, ratings etc.
  • Increase in click through rate (CTR) from search results
