What is the Authorship Tag?

This mark-up links authors to content, allowing searchers to also find other content written by the individual. It displays the picture associated with the individuals Google+ profile next to the item in the search results.

Let’s take a look at an example…

Setting Up Authorship

Step 1:
Link to your Google profile from your webpage, like this:

<a href=”[profile_url]?rel=author”>Your Website Name</a>

Just replace the [profile_url] part with your Google Profile URL making sure you keep the ?rel=author part or Google won’t be able to associate your content with your Google Profile.

Step 2:
Add a reciprocal link back from your Google profile to the site. Here’s how:

1.Sign into your Google account
2.Click Edit Profile
3.Click the ‘Contributor to’ section on the right and then click ‘Add custom link’ and click ‘Save’.
